A History of Excellence

For more than a century, wrestling at Yale has been an important force in intercollegiate wrestling and a key part of Yale Athletics. Founded in 1900, the Yale wrestling team is the nation’s oldest collegiate wrestling team. We are proud to count notable alumni such as William Howard Taft, class of 1878 and 27th President of the U.S., and George Stuart Dole, class of 1906 and Yale’s first collegiate gold medalist with a win in Men’s Featherweight Class Freestyle Wrestling at the 1908 London Olympics.

Yale Wrestling is currently coached by Gabriel Vega and David Nguyen.
