Your 2016 Conneticut State Dual Champions

February 22, 2016

Last weekend the Yale Bulldogs traveled to UConn to compete for the NCWA Connecticut State Dual Championships. After a resounding victory over the University of New Haven (48-18) in the semi-finals, our wrestlers went up against long-time rivals UConn for the state team dual title. Using our deep lineup to capitalize on Uconn opens mixed with several strategic match-ups, the Yale Bulldogs emerged as the CT State Champs by a narrow score of 30-27!

The team victory, which came off of crucial victories at 133 by Tyler Petrochko (Soph, 4-3) and 165 by Seth McNay (Jun, 9-1), was sealed when Batmanlai Ontogtokh (Soph, 2-2) bumped up to 184 and beat his UConn opponent 8-2. After two close periods, Batmanlai took down and turned his opponent in the 3rd period to secure the victory for himself and the team. And the end of the day it was the cumulation of a lot of heart and fight from the Bulldogs that made the reward well-deserved.

This weekend the Yale Bulldogs will be traveling to the University of New Hampshire for the Northeast Regional Conference Championships where the wrestlers will be fighting for a chance to wrestle at the national tournament in a few weeks. With the performance they put on last weekend, there’s no doubt they will be successful!

Go Bulldogs! Boola Boola!
